As many as 21 laws including the controversial Elections (Amendment) Bill 2020 and the bill providing right of appeal to Indian spy Kulbhushan Jadhav were approved by the National Assembly in an unusual haste after suspension of rules of business on Thursday.
Amid the opposition members' protest, the chair continued the business. After noticing the chair's indifference to their objection, the opposition members began a noisy protest. Members of the opposition also walked out of the house and pointed out lack of quorum, but to no avail.
Speaker Asad Qaider's ruling on the vote on a motion proposing suspension of the rules was challenged by the opposition after which the speaker ordered a physical vote count. In the physical count, the opposition lost with 112-101 vote.
Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ahsan Iqbal, speaking during the session, said that the government wanted to provide relief to Khulbhushan Jadhav by rushing through the bill pertaining to the Indian spy's right of appeal. Following this, the opposition members came in front of the speaker's dais and began chanting slogans demanding the Indian spy's handing.
Slogans of 'Modi Ka Jo Yar Hai Ghaddar Hai' echoed on the floor of the house.
