Journalists Protest To Denounce Censorship
Various Journalists are protesting across the country to denounce the prevailing censorship in Pakistan along with other difficulties faced by the journalistic community.

In the recent past, working journalists have faced layoffs, delayed wages, budget cuts, censuring and etc. To protest against the curtain falling on the media industry as a whole, journalists took to the streets under the leadership of Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ).

Dawn quotes Afzal Butt, president of PFUJ, saying that the rallies are only the “beginning of a protest movement”.

Senior Journalist Hamid Mir tweeted a picture where other seasoned journalists were seen holding a black flag to denounce censorship.

"Senior Journalist Nasir Zaidi who was flogged by Gen Zia in 1978 in Lahore once again holding black flag today on July 16th, 2019 in front of National Press Club Islamabad against censorship and forced terminations in media houses," Mir added.

As per reports, powerful quarters across the country are able to quash critical coverage while the incumbent government has slashed advertising budgets, which were a primary source of revenue fro private media enterprises.
