The passing of the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill by the Indian Parliament has led to student protests all over the country. From Assam to Delhi, students protest against this draconian law for several reasons. Clashed between students of the Jamia Millia Islamia in Delhi and the police have gotten violent.
Students took to Twitter to talk about the violence on the crackdown on the students of the Jamia Millia Islamia. From being detained, to being the subject of a laathi charge to being shot at, students at the university are on the receiving end of police brutality.
According to a report by Quartz India, police have been heard shouting “thrash them, they are circumcised”. The Wire also reports violence in against protesting students in Aligarh Muslim University and Maulana Azad National Urdu University as well.
Supriya Saharma took to Twitter to talk about how women were shot by the police during the protest and have been trapped in the hostels with no medical attention at all. Kunal Majumdar shared his experiences of police shelling inside the library, where according to others, the police even made arrests.
