Prime Minister Imran Khan has expressed ‘extreme disappointment’ by Punjab Assembly’s decision to raise pay and privileges of MPAs, ministers and Chief Minister Usman Buzdar.
Khan took to Twitter to express his disappointment over the matter, saying that a pay rise was only justified if the performance of the provincial government was on par and the country was prospering.

He said in times when the government does not even have enough resources to fulfill the needs of people, such a move is unjustified and uncalled for.
On Wednesday, the Punjab Assembly passed the bill to increase perks and privileges of MPAs and other dignitaries from Punjab. The bill was passed in 5 minutes with a complete consensus.
As per the bill, the monthly salary of members, including perks and allowances, was raised from Rs83,000 to Rs210,000. MPAs basic salaries were increased from Rs18,000 to Rs80,000 while daily allowance was increased from Rs1,000 to Rs4,000.

The Punjab chief minister will now be receiving a monthly package of over Rs350,000.
Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry praised the decision earlier but later backtracked from his remarks. He said that maybe the Punjab government is in dark about the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s austerity drive.
