The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the government to remove human rights activist Gulalai Ismail from the Exit Control List (ECL) but take action against her as recommended by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
The ISI had recommended that appropriate action should be taken against Gulalai, including placing her name on ECL and confiscation of her passport, for “anti-state” activities abroad.
Gulalai filed a petition in the court after Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) detained her and confiscated her passport upon her return from the UK for association with Pashtun Tahaffuz Movement and for allegedly delivering “anti-state” speeches.
Gulalai maintained that she has never delivered anti-state speeches and is a patriot.
