Former Pakistani skipper Sana Mir has become the most successful spinner in women's One-Day International (ODI) cricket with a total of 147 wickets to her name.
Mir achieved the feat by taking the wicket of South Africa's Sune Luus in the third ODI of the 3-match series which ended in a thrilling tie at Willowmoore Park on Sunday.
Mir took her 147th wicket in 118th appearance in Pakistani colours. She is also now the third highest wicket-taker in women's ODI history, behind fast bowlers Jhulan Goswami of India (218) and Australia’s Cathryn Fitzpatrick (180).
Luus’ dismissal came in 49th over of the South African innings as they set the visitors a target of 266 after the hosts were put to bat by the visitors. In reply, Pakistan, Javeria Khan (74) and Aliya Riaz (71) were among the highest run getters, while tail-ender Nashra Sandu hit a six off the second last ball followed by a single in the last one to tie the match.
The tie meant that the series ended in a 1-1 draw after both teams had secured a win each. The win means that Pakistan is ranked 5th in the International Cricket Council (ICC) Women's Championship rankings with 15 points followed by New Zealand, who stand at 14.
Sana, meanwhile, is third in the ICC bowlers’ rankings but is expected to make an upward movement when the new rankings are released on Monday. In October last year, Mir became the first Pakistan bowler to top the women's ICC rankings.
