President Arif Arif will soon announce the date for general elections as the deal between him and the establishment has been finalized.
While speaking at his program on Naya Daur TV, senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy said that Army Chief General Asim Munir and Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Director General Lt Gen Nadeem Anjum met President Alvi, and a deal has been finalized between the president and the establishment as per which Alvi will not raise any reservations regarding the Official Secret Act and Army Act.
The analyst said that President Alvi asked the establishment to pave a way so that he might be able to face the public with grace. He said that President Alvi assured the establishment that he would avoid any adventure related to the Official Secret Act and Army Act.
Suharwardy said that when President Alvi announces the date for elections, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) will file a plea in court challenging the move by stating that the president has no right to announce the date for elections.
He said that the case would be heard at the Supreme Court, and upcoming chief justice Qazi Faez Esa had already said that no such case can be heard until the Supreme Court Practice and Procedure Bill case is decided.
The analyst said that the ECP will also use the completion of the delimitation process as an excuse for a delay in elections.
Suharwardy said, "A fixed match will be played between President Alvi and the establishment."
The analyst said that Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial will become a ‘punching bag’ who will face criticism from both the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM).
