In the federal capital Islamabad, the management of Hum News have dismissed the entire team of increasingly popular current affairs show Views Makers hosted by anchor Zaryab. The programme team consisted of five employees, all of whom were dismissed without prior notice or stated reasons.
According to Hum TV's website, at the moment the network is broadcasting six channels and maintains a Public Relations staff as well as a company by the name of Hum Mart. The channels being broadcast include Hum News, Hum TV, Hum Masala, Hum Film and Hum Sitaray. And according to the website, the Hum Network is grossing highest in the market at the moment, but it is not yet clear as to why five employees had to be removed due to financial troubles.
Speaking to Naya Daur Media, a team member for the current affairs programme Views Makers says that their five-person team had initially started with a programme called Hum Views, hosted by Zaryab. This show used to be broadcast six times a week. He goes on to say that this team worked without even a single day off for weeks on end. Viewership was limited and it was hard to find guests to appear on the show. Yet the team worked hard to turn this situation around, and viewership was rising. There were no apparent financial troubles at the channel either, he notes.
According to the source, the show was closed down by the new Director News and the team was told that they could continue to come to office until the 9th of November if they wished, but the show would not be broadcast. When asked if any quarters had objections to the show's content, the producer says that this was not the case, since the entire programme was based on the network's editorial policy. And when asked whether the team's pay was enough for the channel to want to save up on it, the producer says that they were paid a total of Rs. 500,000, which is not much for such a popular programme.
