Few Judges Consider Themselves Rulers Of Country: Suharwardy

Senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy has said that few judges are considering themselves rulers of the country, and they are interfering in government affairs, which is a major issue.

While speaking at a program on Naya Daur TV, Suharwardy said that the Lahore High Court (LHC) halted the Punjab government's scheme of distributing motorbikes among students as Justice Shahid Karim remarked the bikes could be used for one-wheeling and female harassment.

The analyst said that judges should understand that it is not their job to decide government policies, adding that their job is to give justice to the public.

He said that Justice Shahid's remarks reflect his pathetic mentality. He should resign from his post and contest elections to fulfill his desire to rule the country, he added.

Suharwardy said that judges are complaining about the interference of the establishment in judicial affairs, but the real issue is the interference of the judiciary in government affairs.

While responding to a question about lawyers’ strikes, he said that this culture of strikes is poison and should be abolished. “How can lawyers go on strike after taking fees from their clients?” he questioned.

To another question, the analyst said that no one should take Khyber Pakhtukhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur's remarks seriously, as his statements are just for ‘entertainment.’
