Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Firdous Ashiq Awan has said that the federal government could not allow Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Maryam Nawaz Sharif to fly abroad on 'weak grounds'.
While addressing a press conference in the federal capital, Awan questioned why Maryam needed to visit her sick father when her relatives and siblings were there to take care of him.
The Lahore High Court recently ordered the interior ministry to make a decision regarding the request of Maryam Nawaz in which she sought her name to be removed from the Exit Control List and her passport to be returned.
The PM’s assistant stated that Maryam Nawaz’s application was currently being considered by a federal cabinet’s sub-committee. She added that the government was not willing to remove Maryam's name from ECL ‘without concrete reason’.
Awan stated that the law minister had informed the cabinet that there existed no law which allowed convicts to travel abroad to visit their sick relatives.
