Riz Ahmed’s film Sound of Metal won big at the Zurich International Film Festival (ZIFF). The film held its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Directed by Darius Marder, the film won the Golden Eye for Best Film at 2019’s ZIFF. The story revolves around a drummer (played by Ahmed) who has to deal with a sudden loss of hearing. This is Marder’s debut feature film.
While speaking to media persons, Riz said, “The film asks the question, 'Who are you?', when everything you thought you were, is stripped away from you."
In order to immerse himself into the character, Ahmed learned how to play the drums, learn sign language and interact with musicians and people belonging to the deaf community.
