The government authorities have arrested three journalists, who were reporting the poor conditions of quarantine centre set up in Dera Ismail Khan to facilitate the suspected patients of coronavirus.
Journalist and author Nasim Zehra took to Twitter to inform people about the arrest of a reporter and two other journalists associated with channel 24 News HD. She said that the journalists were risking their lives, while reporting the poor conditions of DI Khan’s quarantine centre. “This is ridiculous. Media must highlight shortcomings,” she added.

However, the English daily DAWN reported that the district administration of Dera Ismail Khan on Monday denied that the journalists were arrested for their critical reporting on the conditions in a coronavirus quarantine centre established in the district. DI Khan Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Umair said that journalists were arrested for propagating ‘fake information’ about the quarantine facility and misleading the general public.
Last month, two staffers of the same channel 24 News HD and an employee of channel AbbTakk had tested positive for the deadly coronavirus, after which the staff members of the said channels and other media personnel had called on the owners to let them work from home.
On March 22, Journalist Gharidah Farooqi claimed on Twitter that total three cases of coronavirus were reported from mainstream media channels, out of which two were reported from channel 24, and one from channel AbbTakk.
