A video has been making the rounds on social media wherein a local young boy can be seen demolishing the foundations of the under construction Hindu temple in Islamabad.
On Saturday, a video uploaded by a Twitter handle (PakHindus) went viral on social media. In the video, a local youngster of Islamabad was seen dismantling the temporary boundary wall of the temple. “If building a temple brings insecurity among our Muslim brother’s Faith, we respect their faith and would want to build a temple after their faith gets stronger. #MandirTauBanega,”said the tweet user who uploaded the video.

Lal Chand Malhi – a Hindu lawmaker of PTI said that Hindus residing in the capital avoided visiting the site, following the desecration of the boundary wall of the temple. He said that the wall was constructed using the resources of Islamabad Hindu Panchayat and that the work had been temporarily stopped in light of ‘unpleasant incidents’. The lawmaker added that the decision was made by the panchayat in Islamabad on Saturday, in an emergency meeting, following the ‘blasphemous act’.

A news media outlet quoted an official of Hindu Panchayat as saying, “We have been receiving threats and objections from Muslim elites and clerics in the capital ever since construction started. A number of fatwas were also issued. They demand that a temple should not be built with the government’s money.”
The video of the temple being attacked garnered a lot of criticism from people across the country. Following this the hashtag #MandirTauBanega has become one of the top trends on the social media platform.
