A financial emergency can be imposed on the country according to Article 234, but it is nowhere written in the constitution that elections can be postponed during the period of a financial emergency.
While speaking at a program on Naya Daur TV, senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy said that if anyone wants to impose a financial emergency to postpone elections, he will certainly not succeed in his motives.
He said that there are many other ways in which elections can be postponed, but imposing a financial emergency is not one of them.
While responding to a question, Suharwardy said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) will make seat adjustments with the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) on a maximum of four seats. Similarly, the PML-N might also make seat adjustments with the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) on three seats, he predicted.
The analyst said that PML-N supremo Nawaz Sharif is not in the mood to offer “anything to anyone.”
To another question, Suharwardy said that Supreme Court Justice Sayyed Muhammad Mazahar Ali Akbar Naqvi has submitted a reply to the second show cause notice from the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), reiterating his assertion that the misconduct allegations leveled against him are baseless.
The analyst said that Justice Naqvi is likely to be sacked at the next hearing that is scheduled to be held on January 11.
