Another doctor in Karachi, identified as Dr Furqan-ul-Haq, died of the fatal coronavirus on Sunday, after being denied treatment at various public and private hospitals.
According to a news report published in The News, Dr Haq, the cardiologist who had recently retired from Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD), had tested positive for COVID-19 along with his wife last week. “He was dying due to shortness of breath after testing positive for the novel coronavirus, but no hospital admitted him,” wife of the late doctor told the newspaper.
She said that Dr Haq was in self-isolation at their residence in Gulshan-e-Iqbal where his condition deteriorated. He was then taken to Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation [SIUT], and a private hospital in Azizabad where he used to work, but all of them refused to admit him, saying that they had no beds available. “He asked me to take him back home, where he passed away,” she added.
However, an official of the Sindh Rescue and Medical Services claimed that the late doctor was taken to the SIUT on Sunday at around 10am, but the facility refused to admit him because he did not have his COVID-19 certificate with him.
The newspaper reported that the wife of the deceased Dr Haq was continuously crying and blaming the authorities for her husband’s death. Dr Haq also called one of his acquaintances during his last moments, urging to use some connections to get him admitted at the Indus Hospital or any other health facility for treatment.
