World Health Organisation (WHO) has praised Pakistan’s efforts in countering the deadly coronavirus, that has claimed 3,115 lives with over 90,000 cases in 73 countries to date.
DAWN reported that WHO Pakistan’s Head Dr Palitha Mahipala has acknowledged that country’s efforts to deal with the challenge are much better than a number of other countries.
Dr Palitha Mahipala while speaking to the media at the organisation’s head office in Islamabad, said “there were only three labs having the capability to test virus in the US, Hong Kong and the Netherlands. Pakistan within two weeks got the capability and now free of cost tests are being provided at five different areas of the country.”
He said Pakistan not only got the facility to diagnose COVID-19 but the authorities also introduced it at five different places across the country within just two weeks unlike many other parts of the world.
The WHO official, when asked about the five cases reported in Pakistan, said it was a positive sign, because it showed that the country had a very strong surveillance system due to which the cases were picked without any delay.
Moreover, Dr Palitha also praised Special Assistant to Prime Minister (SAPM) on health Dr Zafar Mirza for establishing five quarantine facilities across the country and handling the critical cases so efficiently.
