Special Assistant to Prime Minister Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Jahangir Tareen on Monday ruled out possibility of Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar's removal in the wake of the cabinet reshuffle.
The PTI parliamentary meeting on Monday expressed complete trust in Buzdar’s leadership. “We will be standing beside you in the journey of public service,” several part legislators told Buzdar, according to Dawn.
Another PTI MPA said that Punjab was ‘lucky to have a CM like Usman Buzdar’.
Dawn reported that PTI leader Jahangir Tareen and Governor Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar are ‘vying’ for a significant role in Punjab. Both spent a busy day to ‘muster support’ in the province on Monday.
According to Dawn, Governor Sarwar held a meeting with the chief minister as well as Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid MNA Chaudhry Moonis Elahi besides federal education minister Shafqat Mahmood and party’s additional general secretary Ejaz Chaudhry discussing political scene.
He held the meeting a day before his meeting with Prime Minister Imran Khan to discuss the situation in Punjab.
Mr Tareen is also holding meetings with PTI ministers, legislators, leaders as well as bureaucracy to collect his cards to play in Punjab.
Dawn also said that Finance Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi and Chaudhry Sarwar are against the Tareen group.
Last Thursday, former finance minister Asad Umar stepped down, and there were rumours that Punjab CM could also be replaced too.
Several other PTI ministers were also removed or handed different portfolios. Among them were Fawad Chaudhry, Shehryar Afridi, Ghulam Sarwar, Ijaz Ahmad Shah and Muhammad Mian Soomro.
