The Covid infections in Punjab continue to show a downward trend, as the province has reported less than 100 cases for the fifth consecutive day.
According to Punjab Primary and Secondary Healthcare Department, 36 cases were reported during the past 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed cases to 96,741. According to Dawn, it was almost for the first time that no person was confirmed as positive out of the total 1,338 contacts of 36 patients.
With one more death in Punjab, the total number of fatalities stands at 2,196.
At present, there are 4,250 active cases in the province, most of them being quarantined at home. The newspaper reported that most of the young people aged 31-45 had contracted the virus followed by the 16-30 age group.
Though the current trend is heartening news, the health experts feared that the threat of a resurgence of the virus would be in case of sheer violation of standard operating procedure (SOPs) during Muharram. They say that the first three months of September would determine the fate of Covid pandemic in Punjab and Pakistan too.
