In a new development, the father and two relatives of a girl who was claimed to have been stoned to death near Dadu have disappeared. Authorities had earlier been investigating the father in the case of the death of 9-year-old Gul Sama. After having been released on bail, the father and two others were picked up by unidentified persons in a vehicle and taken away. They have now been missing for at least five days.
Initial reports had claimed that the deceased girl's injuries were consistent with being stoned to death. But a medico-legal team had later ruled out that possibility after exhuming her body and carrying out a postmortem.
Police in Dadu had registered a case against the father and some other individuals, but had subsequently released them on bail.
When they were later spirited away by unknown individuals, the local community, including relatives and neighbours of the girl, came out in protest. They claim that the authorities have not done enough to ensure that the disappeared individuals are returned.
