Five Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) personnel including a sub-inspector, lost their lives while five others were injured in clash with wanted criminals during a police raid in Chilas, the district headquarter for Diamer.
According to police officials, two civilians were also killed in the exchange of fire.
Dawn quoted Gilgit-Baltistan police spokesperson Mubarak Jan as saying that the operation was conducted after police received a tip-off that criminals wanted for murder and attempted murder had taken shelter at a house. The operation took place at 2 AM, he said.
Further, he said that the the area was sealed immediately following the operation. Police have been conducting raids in adjoining areas.
Bodies of the slain police officials were shifted to a nearby hospital.
