The National Assembly Deputy Speaker Qasim Khan Suri’s election has been declared void by the Balochistan High Court's election tribunal.
The tribunal has ordered a reelection in the constituency NA-265, from where Qasim Khan Suri contested the elections.
The election result for NA-265 had been challenged after a petition alleging rigging had been filed by Nawabzada Lashkari Raisani, a candidate of the Balochistan National Party (BNP).
In the elections of 2018, Raisani was among those who had contested the elections from NA-265, and had lost.
In the elections of 2018, Raisani had received 20,394 votes as opposed to Suri’s 25,979, with 3,422 votes being rejected.
Following the development, commentators have brought under consideration the fact that the party who had alleged rigging in the elections of 2013, is having the elections of its own candidates declared void.
