Kaavan, the ‘loneliest elephant on earth’ who spent 35 years in Islamabad Zoo will finally be sent to a sanctuary in Cambodia. The elephant's relocation to Cambodia is being made possible after Islamabad High Court decision considered how lonely the elephant was due to the absence of a natural habitat at Islamabad zoo. American Singer and actress Cher is currently in Pakistan to celebrate the departure of Kaavan.
Cher’s schedule was not made public due to security concerns. It is, however, reported by the Associated Press that she has already met with Prime Minister Imran Khan and is expected to visit Kaavan later in the trip.
Martin Bauer of Four Paws International, an animal welfare group that took the charge to save Kaavan, said, “Thanks to Cher, but also local Pakistani activists, Kaavan’s fate made headlines around the world, and this contributed to the facilitation of his transfer."
Earlier this week, President Arif Alvi along with First Lady Samina Alvi also visited Kaavan to bid the elephant farewell.
