The Peshawar High Court (PHC) has restored the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) electoral symbol 'bat', but this development will not play any role in attaining victory in the upcoming general elections.
While speaking at a program on Naya Daur TV, senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy said that the PHC announced the verdict without listening to the point of view of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), adding that it has been confirmed that the PHC is facilitating the PTI.
While responding to a question, the analyst said that the PHC has also granted transit bail to PTI Secretary General Omar Ayub Khan and stopped the police from arresting him until January 15, which indicates that a fragment of the judiciary is not willing to realize that attacks on military installations by a political party are heinous crimes. “It is a state versus judiciary situation,” he said.
To another question, Suharwardy said that the PTI wants elections to be held under the supervision of its ‘favorite’ officers, and the ECP is fully supporting the party in this regard.
The analyst said that the ECP should not be authorized to change the officers, adding that this authority should solely be in the hands of the government.
