Dengue has taken another life as a newly-wed youth died of the illness on Friday in Peshawar.
Local sources informed that the man, Daud Shinwari, died of dengue fever in Rashid Garhi area of the city.
Family sources stated that Daud was hospitalised with a fever which was later diagnosed to be dengue.
Daud’s treatment was started early but he did not recover. Family sources informed that Daud had gotten married five days ago. He has left behind a young widow.
The number of dengue patients is increasing day by day in different localities of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and people are dying despite the tall claims of the government that it is working to prevent the spread of the virus.
A day earlier, a fifteen-year-old boy from Ghundi Makihel in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber died of dengue fever.
Thousands of people have fallen victim to dengue fever in the province, with most of the cases from Peshawar and other big cities.
It is important to mention that 68 new cases were reported in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, which took the total number of cases to 6,048.
The KP health department has said that the best treatment facilities were being provided to dengue patients. Moreover, fumigation was also being carried out in dengue-prone areas of the province.
From the month of August, 5,330 patients have been discharged after provision of treatment at various hospitals. There have been some media reports that fewer people have died of the fever in the province this year. The government has said that some patients died due to other health reasons and it was wrongly reported that they died of dengue.
The provincial focal person for dengue Dr Ahmed has said that steps had been taken to create awareness about the fever. He appealed to the people to adopt precautionary measures to avoid the further spread of the disease. He said that unnecessary accumulation of water in houses and streets must be prevented and stagnant water should be dried up.
