Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah has revealed that Munawar Hasan, Mufti Naeem and Allama Talib Jauhari had died from coronavirus, with all three deaths taking place just under a week.
The minister made the remarks while addressing a session at Sindh Assembly on Friday. He was briefing the House on the measures to counter the outbreak in the province.
Earlier today, former chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Munawar Hasan breathed his last at a hospital in Karachi. He was unwell for the past several days. There hasn't been, however, any word so far from the party whether he had the coronavirus.
Similarly, last Sunday, Allama Talib Jauhari, one of Pakistan’s most renowned scholars, passed away in Karachi at the age of 80. He was reportedly receiving treatment for a heart condition for the past several days. Only a day prior to Allama Jauhari's death, renowned scholar Mufti Naeem passed away in Karachi as well. None of the followers of these two scholars have so far confirmed the cause of their deaths.
As of now, authorities have imposed a "selective lock-down" in the country which has not been able to take its full effect as many markets and commute remain open. According to the statistics, the cases in province stand at a staggering 76,318, while the cases in the country total up to 196,895, with 3,989 deaths and 84,168 recoveries.
