Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko arrived in Islamabad on Monday, leading a 68-member business delegation for a three-day visit aimed at strengthening bilateral ties and signing several agreements in different economic sectors.
The visiting delegation was welcomed at Nur Khan Airbase by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and other officials, including Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, and Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi.
According to a statement from Pakistan's Foreign Office, President Lukashenko will hold detailed discussions with Prime Minister Sharif to explore areas of cooperation between the two countries. The visit is expected to result in the signing of several agreements and memorandums of understanding (MoUs).
The Belarusian delegation, which arrived a day earlier, includes high-ranking officials such as Belarus' foreign minister, energy minister, transport minister, justice minister, minister for natural resources, and the head of the Military Industry Committee. The delegation also includes 43 prominent Belarusian business leaders.
Earlier this year, Belarusian Prime Minister Roman Golovchenko visited Islamabad for the SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG) meeting, where he met with Pakistan's top leaders.
The visit comes at a time when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), the former ruling party, has called for a "do-or-die" protest, leading authorities to seal off Islamabad’s Red Zone. PTI has demanded the release of its leaders, including Imran Khan, the return of what it calls the "stolen mandate" from the February 8 elections, and the withdrawal of the 26th Constitutional Amendment focused on the judiciary.
