Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on Friday said that Pakistan was convinced that the United States (US) was exerting unjustified pressure on Iran and that the country understands Iran's position.
Zarif, who was on a two-day visit to Pakistan to discuss the latest escalation between Iran and the US and its Arab allies, said that he was happy that Pakistan fully understood Iran's position. “Pakistan understands our position … and considers US pressure on Iran as unjustified," Zarif said.
The Iranian foreign minister described his discussions with Pakistani leaders as “useful” and “constructive”. He said that Pakistan shared the same point of view that Iran has against 'imperialist forces'.
“The US decision to deploy aircraft carrier and bombers has added to the tensions and the existing precarious security situation in the Middle East,” the spokesman had said.
The two sides also discussed and emphasized the importance of cooperation between the two countries to counter Washington's hegemonic policies towards the Muslim countries. Zarif also called economic sanctions against Iran as 'economic terrorism' and intimidation tactics by the US.
The two sides discussed ways to expand bilateral ties in different areas, particularly the energy sector and regional issues. The visiting foreign minister also held meetings with his counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Prime Minister Imran Khan and Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa among others.
