Pakistani artist Naiza Khan is all set to exhibit her art work at Venice Biennale. She will have a solo exhibition titled ‘Manora Field Notes’ which portrays contemporary life on Manora Island, a small peninsula located south of Karachi port.
Speaking to Dawn about her work, Naiza said that in her exhibition, she will present work that has took years to explore and research. She says the work can be situated “within a larger conversation that links Venice to the Persian-Indian-Arab peninsulas through histories of empire and maritime trade.”

Show curator Zahra Khan also talked about Naiza Khan’s work. She said Naiza’s work will showcase the unique nautical, multicultural and multi-religious history that the Manora Island has to offer. She also lauded the artist saying that she is the perfect person to represent Pakistan at a platform as big as the Venice Biennale.
Pakistan’s first ever National Pavilion at the Venice Biennale was by Coalesce Design Studio, a Karachi based multi-disciplined team in 2018. The six-designers created four swings inside a fifteen-foot cube of steel bars. The swings were made of Pakistani wood called Sheesham.
The 58th International Art Exhibition, titled May You Live In Interesting Times, will take place from 11 May to 24 November 2019.
