A number of patients appear to have lost their eyesight after receiving eye drops at Islamabad's Al Shifa Trust Eye Hospital. According to reporting by Dawn, some 80 patients appear to have suffered eyesight loss after having been administered the eye-drops in the aftermath of surgery for glaucoma.
Former PM Raja Pervaiz Ashraf took up the case of a woman from his constituency who lost her eyesight in the aftermath of this procedure.
The administration at Al Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, however, has taken the view that these claims of 80 people having lost their eyesight are inaccurate. Media Coordinator Mirza Riaz Baig has stated that only eight patients suffered a reaction to the eye-drops, of whom one was the woman from Raja Pervaiz Ashraf's constituency, who lost her eyesight.
The hospital claims to provide free treatment to 70 percent of its patients.
