Prime Minister's Special Assistant on Health Dr Zafar Mirza has warned that the cases of coronavirus through local transmission had increased by 66% across Pakistan and it will most likely get worse during Ramzan.
During a press conference on Wednesday, he raised concerns over the alarming number of cases that have spiked and the deaths that the virus has caused. He said that the only system of regulation that can be fruitful is the self-accountability that citizens should be practicing amidst themselves to be able to prevent from the virus.
As of today, Pakistan’s tally of confirmed virus cases has crossed 10,800 while deaths linked to the virus infections have climbed to 226.
Earlier, the religious clergy of the country had forced the government to lift the ban on congregational prayers fro the month of Ramzan, while on Wednesday, Chairman Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman has said that he would offer prayers at home during the holy month of Ramzan.
Earlier, other officials have also warned that the country, which may still be in an early stage of the pandemic, could hit the virus peak in the months of May and June when a considerable strain on its healthcare system is expected which the authorities say they’re working to ramp up.
Senior doctors have also condemned the act of easing the lockdown and has appealed to the government for a strict regulation policy of public gatherings.
