Two years after a maid was attacked with acid by her employer in Punjab's city of Sargodha, she has been rescued by the authorities.
A spiritual leader, who had employed the victim as a maid in his house, threw acid at her after sexually assaulting her in 2017. The accused was assisted by a disciple, Express Tribune reported.
The incident occurred in 2017 and had been kept concealed for a period of two years. The acid attack caused severe burns to the victim, distorted her face and made her blind.
Authorities also took the accused, Peer Syed Wazir Shah, into custody. He claimed that the maid poured acid on herself because he refused to marry her.
Tribune reported that the victim had been employed at Shah's residence for 9 years, but was not allowed to meet with her family members for the past two years.
The Punjab government is taking necessary steps for the victim’s treatment while authorities continue to investigate the matter.
On Tuesday, a housewife in Layyah was gang-raped by two unidentified men, who held her hostage before raping her and throwing acid at her causing burns to her arms, legs, and back.
The 32-year-old was asleep in her courtyard with her two children when two unidentified assailants broke into her home, held her hostage and sexually assaulted her. They also threw acid on her before fleeing.
The woman was admitted to Fatehpur THQ Hospital where she was said to be stable.
