Prime Minister Imran Khan, while giving his keynote address at the World Economic Forum’s (WEF) special session in Davos on Wednesday said that the departure of Soviet Union from Afghanistan brought militancy in Pakistan.
“When Soviet Union left Afghanistan, we were left with the militant groups and drugs coming in to the country and it further introduced ‘Klashinkolf culture’ in the country. The armed militias then became impediments to economic growth.” PM Khan said.
PM Imran Khan said that no country can grow and flourish economically without peace and stability in the country. “My government decided that from now onwards, Pakistan would be a partner to peace. We will not become part of any other country’s conflict,” he remarked.
“Throughout his engagements in Davos, Prime Minister Imran will share Pakistan’s vision and achievements in the areas of the economy, peace and stability, trade, business and investment opportunities,” said a statement issued by the Foreign Office.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the WEF, which runs until Thursday. The theme for this year’s gathering is ‘Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World’.
