In an alleged audio clip of Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Umar Sheikh, he can be heard abusing a woman who telephoned him seeking help. The clip went viral on social media.
According to a private TV channel, the CCPO said that the clip was yet another 'conspiracy' against him. The woman introduced herself as a resident of Raiwind and tried to tell the CCPO how she was mistreated by a sub inspector, but the CCPO resorted to abuses in response.
Dawn reported that the woman had earlier written to the CCPO complaining that the said SI had 'picked up' her husband from their home in Raiwind and taken him to Lahore. She added that the SI later called her and demanded Rs3 million in return for her husband's release and said he would nominate the man in a drug trafficking case.
However, the Lahore police have claimed that the woman's husband was a habitual criminal and was taken into custody as per the law. The police also claimed that he has many cases registered against him in Kasur.
Last month, Punjab Police Sub-inspector Fahad Iftikhar Virk had tendered his resignation after Umar Sheikh humiliated him in an official meeting for ‘answering a question in English’.
Virk had said the CCPO ridiculed him and called him ‘son of a donkey’ as he castigated him in the meeting. Express Tribune quoted Virk as saying that he could not tolerate ‘him abusing my father that was too much for me’.
