Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar on Thursday said Prime Minister Imran Khan assured him that members of the Punjab Assembly will be granted a pay-and-perk rise when financial situation improves in the province.
The Punjab CM said this while speaking to media after planting saplings in Changa Manga forest on occasion of International Forest Day.
“Prime Minister Imran Khan has told me that the financial situation in the province, and in the country, is weak and the country can’t afford a pay rise. He said once the situation improves, salaries will be increased,” Buzdar told media.

He said that bill raising salaries and perks of MPAs, and the CM himself, which was passed within 5 minutes earlier this month, will be reviewed again on technical grounds.
Buzdar said the copy of the bill which is with the media has ‘nothing’ in it and that the media needs to see the copy of the bill that was passed in the provincial assembly. “The media has criticized me more than anyone else to this end,” he complained.
On Monday, PM Khan summoned Usman Buzdar to provide explanation over bill approving increments of Punjab lawmakers. Earlier in the month, Khan had expressed ‘extreme disappointment’ over the move.

Khan said that such a bill would only make sense if the country was prosperous.
“Such a move could be justified once prosperity returns to Pakistan, but now, when we do not have resources to provide basic amenities to all our people, this is untenable,” he said.
