ECP To Win Election Tribunals Case, Predicts Suharwardy

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa has refused to suspend the Lahore High Court’s (LHC) orders and sought the formation of a five-member larger bench to solve the matter over whether the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) or the high court should appoint tribunals to decide electoral issues.

While speaking at a program on Naya Daur TV, senior analyst Muzamal Suharwardy said that CJP Isa has not suspended the judgment of the LHC and directed the formation of a larger bench to hear this case. But on the other hand, on May 6, Justice Mansoor Ali Shah, who was heading the bench hearing the reserved seats case, sought the formation of a larger bench after suspending the Peshawar High Court's (PHC) verdict on reserved seats because Justice Mansoor had an interest in it.

The analyst said that the ECP will win the election tribunals case because of its constitutional right to appoint tribunals.

While responding to a question, Suharwardy said that DG KHAN: Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari and Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) have written letters to Federal Minister for Interior Affairs Mohsin Naqvi, seeking security of grid stations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (PK).

He said that the interior minister should deploy paramilitary forces at all grid stations in KP on the basis of these letters to ensure the writ of state.

To another question, Suharwardy said that there is a dispute among the PTI leadership over Sher Afzal Marwat. Imran Khan’s sister, Aleema Khan, has also clarified in a tweet that Khan has not directed her to reinstate Marwat in the party.

While talking about the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto meeting, the analyst said that it seems that the establishment scolded the PPP and asked the party leadership to meet PM Shehbaz and assure support over the budget.
