In a recent crackdown, the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) food department has sealed two mineral water brands in the capital after Naya Daur raised the issue in a report published on Thursday.
Two reputed mineral water brands Al-Riyan and Sky Pure were found guilty of supplying contaminated water unfit for consumption. National Institute of Health (NIH) in its lab examination marked them contaminated for having high number of coliform.
The mineral water brands Al-Riyan situated in Sarfaraz Town Tarlai, and Skypure in PWD Islamabad supply 4000 liters water to households, offices and shops but their factories environment was disastrous as no precautionary measures were adopted by people working inside.
Deputy Director Food Iqbal Yousaf told media that the authorities have started crackdown against the mineral water brands inside Islamabad whose standards are low and risky for human health.
“In the first phase, we collected samples from mineral water brands and sent it for lab examination. Action was taken against those whose sample failed the test."
“In the past few months, we have sealed 9 mineral water factories and today we sealed two others, we will take action against all accused as situation improved up to 70 per cent after the crackdown of the food department” Yousaf added.
It’s pertained to mention here that ICT food department last month sealed 9 reputed mineral water brands in Islamabad on having highest number of bacterial germs.
According to the lab results of the NIH, the coliform level inside both mineral water brands are high and these brands are unfit for use.
Child Labour at factories
Inside the mineral water factories, children less than 18 years are working without any kind of safety covers. The environment inside these factories is also a cause for concern.
Islamabad High court (IHC), in a verdict last month, directed the ICT officials to seal all those mineral water brands who are supplying contaminated water to people.
