Pakistani Passport Climbs 6 Spots To Gain 198th Spot In World Ranking

Pakistani passport has improved its ranking among the global community as it climbed six places to gain the 192nd spot, it emerged on Wednesday.

The ranking was seen improved in the Individual Passport Power Ranking (IPPR) 2020, released by the Passport Index, leading real-time passport ranking tool, Pro Pakistani reported.

The IPPR is based on Mobility Score, meaning the number of countries an individual can visit without visa or obtain a visa upon arrival, and the statistics of United Nations Development Program’s Human Development Index (UNDP HDI). A high Mobility Score essentially means that IPPR will also be higher. In case of a tie between two passports, the UNDP HDI functions as the decision maker.

Since Pakistani passport holders enjoy visa-free access to seven countries as well as visa on arrival facility to 26 countries, it has a Mobility Score of 33.

The current improvement can bee seen as a major development for passport, which has, time and again, ranked negatively on the global lists.

In March 2019, the Henley Passport Index (HPI) - an annual global ranking of countries according to the travel freedom of their citizens - placed the Pakistani passport at #102 in its 2019 list of most and least powerful passports of the world list.
