Motorist Mistreated For Filming ‘Discriminatory Behaviour’ Of NHMP
RAWALPINDI: Officials of the National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) on Monday mistreated a citizen who was filming their alleged discriminatory behaviour on GT Road between Mundra and Gujar Khan.

In the mobile video that went viral on social media, an official can be seen making an attempt to grab the mobile phone from the motorist’s hand.

The man, stopped by the police for overspeeding, complained about the discriminatory behaviour of the officials and claimed that they were not stopping other speeding vehicles.

The motorist said that the officials, after briefly stopping another motorist for the same offence, allegedly allowed him to go right in front of him.

In the video, a police official is seen explaining to the motorist that the other vehicle was not stopped for overspeeding. Meanwhile, an official of the fine collection unit can be seen approaching the motorist and making an attempt to grab his mobile phone.

As a result, the motorist dropped his phone on the ground but managed to save the video in the phone’s memory, which he later shared on different social media forums.

Meanwhile, the NHMP (N-5 North Zone) Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Mohammad Alam Shinwari took notice of the issue as soon as the video went viral and suspended the official in question. He also ordered an inquiry into the incident.

When contacted, a spokesperson for the motorway police said that the incident took place due to minor “confusion”, while adding that further details in connection with the incident would be shared soon after the inquiry was completed.
