Lahore

The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has launched an operation across Punjab targeted at people and entities involved in sexual harassment.

The operation has been initiated on the directions of FIA Director Waqar Abbasi, and is being carried out by the Cybercrime Cell of the agency.

According to a report in Express Tribune, the operation is focused on various cities of Punjab including Lahore, Gujrat, Narowal and Sialkot. In the last 45 days, 11 people have been arrested while further investigations are ongoing.

The arrested were allegedly involved in blackmailing and threatening young women on social media sites such as Facebook and communication applications like Whatsapp.

Two of the arrested from Lahore were found with inappropriate and compromising content on their cellphones, content they allegedly aimed to use for blackmailing women victims.

Moreover, FIA’s Cybercrime Cell has also filed a number of cases under the Cybercrime Act following complaints by parents of girls who have been harassed and blackmailed.

Recently, police in Lahore arrested a man for indecent exposure to women travelling in a motorcycle rickshaw near Etihad Town. The man also followed the women and catcalled them.

Following the incident, the complainant shared footage of the incident on social media. Lahore Capital City Police Officer B A Nasir took notice of the incident and ordered action against the accused, after which he was arrested.
