UAE Will Free 572 Pakistani Prisoners Under Ramazan Amnesty
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will free 572 Pakistani prisoners in the coming days under UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan's Ramazan amnesty, Foreign Office Spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said on Friday.

The Pakistanis were among the 3,005 prisoners who were pardoned by UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan as an act of kindness during the blessed month of Ramzan.

According to the Emirates-wise breakup of the Pakistani prisoners, 262 were caught in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain jails, 177 in Dubai jails, 52 in Sharjah, 65 in Ajman and 16 in Fujairah.

FO Spokesperson said that Pakistani authorities were constantly in touch with those in UAE for release and deportation of Pakistani prisoners caught in UAE jails.

At present, around 2,409 Pakistani nationals were languishing in eight UAE jails, facing imprisonment in different minor and major crimes, he added.

In response to Pakistan’s goodwill gesture of releasing Indian prisoners, New Delhi on Tuesday released 13 Pakistani inmates who completed their jail terms.

The released prisoners, which included four fishermen who illegally entered Indian waters, were handed over to Pakistani authorities at the Wagah Border.

Meanwhile, at least three of the prisoners released were detained in India for overstaying their visas.

Upon his visit to the country in February, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman promised to release 2,100 Pakistani prisoners. However, only a little over 250 Pakistani prisoners have been released by the Kingdom so far.
