Pakistan Has Enough Food For Its People But Prices Are Too High
Pakistan is among countries where infant mortality rate and malnutrition are at the highest. According to International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI), one out of every five Pakistanis is a victim of malnutrition but there’s no shortage of food in Pakistan. Experts believe that Pakistan’s food problem is social and economic.

The real problem is people’s purchasing power. We produce enough wheat and rice to feed our population but a large chunk of them is exported to other countries.

This raises the prices for the local consumers. A 2017 survey by Planning Division reported that around 40% Pakistanis live in multidimensional poverty. Overpopulation, marriages at young age, iron deficiency in mothers, lack of mother feed and weak immunization also contribute to the problem.

Also, according to UN statistics, only 38% mothers give natural feed to their children during first six months.
