The former PM also said that it was necessary to protect democracy. He said that he agreed with Maulana Fazlur Rehman's position that the APC needs to be meaningful otherwise the people would be disappointed.

'State above the state'
Nawaz Sharif, in his address, also reminded the attendees of the APC of former PM Yousaf Raza Gilani's old statement that there was a 'state within a state' in Pakistan. Nawaz said that it was sad that the situation has now turned into a point where a state is above the state. He added that this 'parallel government illness' is the root cause of all of Pakistan's problems.
'Martial law enforced in Pakistan'
Nawaz Sharif said that a 'martial law' had been enforced by the government and criminals are free to make amendments to the constitution. He added, "Our struggle is not against Imran Khan, but against those who installed him and brought an incompetent man like him into power after manipulating the elections."
