Pakistan People's Party (PPP) candidate Dada Mohammad Halepoto has won the by-polls in Badin's PS 70 constituency defeating Maulana Gul Hassan Zaur of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) during the by-elections.
Halepoto, according to the unofficial results, polled 46,037 votes. The JUI-F candidate could only secure 6 342 votes. The losing JUI-F candidate and other leaders speaking to the media rejected the unofficial results of the by-polls.
Halepoto and his supporters denied the claims of rigging levelled by the JUI-F. No untoward incident was reported from 123 polling stations throughout the polling process, which remained slow mainly due to gruelling hot weather and Covid SPOs observed by the officials of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
Meanwhile, PPP chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari in his message issued to the media congratulated the party candidate for successfully running the election campaign. "The people of Badin have always rejected those people who believed to come into the power corridors from the backdoor" he said. The PPP chairman soon after unofficial results tweeted and announced the results of the by-polls.
The PPP chairman said that people had always rejected the selected ones. The seat fell vacant after the death of Bashir Ahmed Halepoto a few weeks back and PPP awarded the ticket to his close relative Dada Mohammad Halepoto. Six candidates were in the race but suddenly GDA's Shahid Virk had announced to retire in favour of Moulana Zaur few days ahead of by-elections.
