Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) released 11 police officials who were kidnapped by the banned organisation's workers after negotiation between protestors and the Punjab government in the early hours of Monday. All released policemen were injured.
The hostages were reportedly kept in the basement of a mosque and were tortured during captivity.
Interior Minister Sheikh Rashid issued a video message announcing the release of the policemen and said that a second round of negotiation with the proscribed group will take place after sehri. He added that the rioters have released policemen and have gone inside the Rehatul Lil Alaameen mosque on Chowk Yateem Khana. "The police have also taken a step back," he said.
The minister hoped that the matter would be resolved after the second round of talks with the TLP. Meanwhile, Lahore police spokesman has said that CCPO Lahore Ghulam Mehmood Dogar took part in the operation to recover the abducted policemen. He added that both Rangers and police have been deployed in the sensitive areas.
TLP demands
TLP put forth four demands including the release of its chief Saad Rizvi, ban on the organisation to be lifted, all FIRs against the workers be withdrawn and a resolution seeking expulsion of French ambassador be presented in the parliament.
