Asad Umar Returns To Cabinet, To Replace Khusro Bakhtiar
Former finance minister Asad Umar is set to mark his return to the federal cabinet with the portfolio of minister for planning and special initiatives.

Prime Minister’s Special Assistant On Information Firdous Ashiq Awan took to Twitter to announce the news. She stated, “Changes and expansion in the federal cabinet… it has been decided that Asad Umar will be appointed as the minister for planning and special initiatives whereas Khusro Bakhtiar will be given the charge of the petroleum ministry.”

She added that a notification would be issued soon.

Asad Umar was the finance minister in Prime Minister Imran Khan’s cabinet and had resigned from his post in April 2019 following criticism over the government’s economic policies.

Umar was replaced by Hafeez Shaikh, who became the prime minister’s adviser on economic affairs.

Umar has been serving as the chairman of National Assembly’s standing committee on finance, revenue and economic affairs.
