Finance Minister Asad Umar announced on Thursday that has decided to step down citing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)'s cabinet shuffle, but his brother and former Sindh Governor Muhammad Zubair Umar said that the timing of the decision was poor and it proves that PTI has admitted its failure.
"Asad Umar's removal at this crucial time is extremely wrong. FATF and IMF deal are in their final stages. The PTI has to present a budget soon too. It is admission of PTI's failure," Zubair said while talking to 24 News.
He continued that with its latest move, PTI has admitted that the party was failing to deliver. He said Prime Minister Imran Khan thought it was a good idea to use his finance minister as a 'sacrificial lamb'. "Asad Umar is being used as a sacrifical lamb. Imran Khan has slammed all blame on Asad for the country's financial crisis," he said.
Criticising the PTI, Zubair said that "every party makes tall claims pre-elections, but the promises PTI made were unrealistic". He slammed PM Khan saying that "he has no vision and experience to lead Pakistan".
"Imran Khan's priorities are different. I believe he spends 22 hours everyday thinking what he has to do of Nawaz Sharif, Shehbaz Sharif and Asif Ali Zardari. Economic progress needs a suitable environment which Khan is failing to provide," he said.
Earlier today, Asad Umar tweeted that he was stepping down. The minister said that he was offered the energy portfolio but refused to accept it saying that he has received Prime Minister Imran Khan’s consent to not take any cabinet position.
“As part of a cabinet reshuffle PM desired that I take the energy minister portfolio instead of finance. However, I have obtained his consent to not take any cabinet position. I strongly believe Imran Khan is the best hope for Pakistan and InshAllah will make a Naya Pakistan,” he said.
