PESHAWAR: The funeral prayers of four soldiers martyred in two attacks on security forces near the Pak-Afghan border were offered and the soldiers were laid to rest on Sunday.
The attacks on the soldiers took place in Spin Wam area of North Waziristan and Upper Dir district.
In Upper Dir, terrorists from Afghanistan fired at soldiers while they were fencing the border. As a result, three soldiers were killed, and one was injured.
The martyred have been identified as Lance Naik Said Amin Afridi, a resident of Khyber district, Lance Naik Mohammed Shoaib Swati, a resident of Mansehra district, and Sepoy Kashif Ali from Nowshera district.
Pakistan has faced hurdles in fencing the border to curb cross-border movement of terrorists, but Afghanistan has never cooperated in this regard.
According to director general of Inter Services Public Relations, two miscreants attacked patrolling security forces in North Waziristan’s district Spin Wam. The military killed both attackers in retaliatory firing.
A soldier, Sepoy Akhter Hussain from Gilgit Baltistan, was martyred in the incident. He was buried with honours on Sunday.
The local people in Spin Wam have protested against the killing of two brothers who have been accused of carrying out the attack on the patrolling forces.
Meanwhile, the people of Spin Wam put the dead bodies on the main road and demanded action against security forces after which the local administration dispersed the dharna.
The DG ISPR has rejected the locals’ claim and said the miscreants attacked soldiers and were killed when the soldiers retaliated.
The leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz movement, Manzoor Pashteen took to social media to react to the incident. He said that military atrocities were increasing in Waziristan and innocent people were being targeted.
The government of Pakistan has protested to Afghanistan’s envoy in Pakistan and has called him at the foreign office. Meanwhile, the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mahmood Khan and Governor Shah Farman condemned the attack and said that sacrifices of security forces would not be in vain.
