Punjab Chief Minister Usman Buzdar has ordered the compilation of data of non-Muslim employees across the province to ensure protection of their rights.
During the meeting of the National Commission for Minority Rights, which is led by Dr Shoaib Suddle, Usman Buzdar gave directions for the compilation of data of non-Muslim employees.
The meeting also discussed the provision of facilities for the welfare of minorities.
The chief minister stated that Punjab was being made a model in terms of minority rights’ protection, adding that the province’s Minority Empowerment Package would be an exemplary programme with regard to protection and welfare of minorities.
CM Buzdar added that Lahore’s Youhanabad would be made a model area with an amount of Rs300mn.
Moreover, the chief minister also called for the appointment of a provincial focal person who would aid in the solution of issues faced by minorities.
He added that minority members would be given official holidays on their religious days.
CM Buzdar stated that non-muslim students would be given educational scholarships worth Rs25mn, while Rs25mn would be given to non-Muslim research scholars and postgraduate scholarships.
Furthermore, the chief minister deliberated over a proposal to exempt non-Muslim students from appearing in competitive exams on the days of their religious events and festivals.
He apprised the attendees that the lands reserved for minorities in Punjab was being retrieved from squatters, further asking police to check the security of churches.
Dr Shoaib Suddle informed the chief minister of the objectives of the commission and added that the province of Punjab would be a model when it came to protection of minority rights.
