Protests Held At Balochistan University Over Alleged Harassment Of Students
QUETTA: Various student organisations staged demonstrations inside the University of Balochistan on Tuesday over the harassment scandal unearthed by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) a day earlier.

The students held a march inside the campus and demanded the authorities concerned to punish the culprits allegedly involved in the harassment of students.

Details of the case came to light one month ago after the Balochistan High Court (BHC) directed the FIA to investigate reports of harassment at the university.

After investigations, the FIA found out that men and women students were being harassed through their “objectionable” videos. The videos were recorded with six cameras that were secretly installed at different points in the university’s campus, in addition to the official CCTV cameras.

Baloch Students Organisation office-bearer Khalid Baloch said, “This is not acceptable; we cannot compromise on our dignity.”

The protesters said that the harassment scandal has affected the atmosphere of education in the province in general and at Balochistan University in particular.

Meanwhile, Pashtunkhwa Students Organisation office –bearer Kabeer Afghan said, “This harassment was going on for a long time in the university.”

The students chanted slogans against the university administration and demanded investigation into the matter. They also demanded the removal of the vice-chancellor and other senior officials.

Insaf Students Federation President Dawood Shah held a press conference at the Quetta Press Club later in the day and said, “Harassment cases should be probed in all three major universities of Quetta.” He demanded from the government to bring the perpetrators to book so that such incidents could be avoided in the future.

Balochistan University Vice-Chancellor Dr Javed Iqbal said in a video clip: “We will cooperate with FIA in exposing the elements involved in the scandal.” He also denied reports that the FIA had made any arrests from the university.
