Senate Standing Committee on Human Rights has summoned the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chief Javed Iqbal -- who also heads the missing persons commission -- and Sindh police chief on Aug 17 over the enforced disappearance of Sindhi researcher and political activist Sarang Joyo.
Both the high-ups would brief the Senate body on the abduction of the activist and the measures taken by the respective departments for his recovery.
The Senate committee would also take up the Chaman incident in which innocent lives were lost. At least three people including a woman were killed while 13 others sustained injuries in firing at a protest against the closure of border at Chaman, Balochistan.
Sarang Joyo, a writer, political activist and Research Associate at Sindh Abhyas Academy, had been whisked away from his house in Karachi reportedly by the law enforcement agencies on Aug 11. The family had said that law enforcers broke into their house, held the entire household hostage, and took Sarang with them.
On Aug 14, Joyo's father of Saeen Taj Joyo declined the President’s Pride of Performance Award on account of the enforced disappearance of his son Sarang Joyo.
